Simon Dobbin
Terrible news this, they didn’t get long enough.

A football fan who suffered horrific injuries when he was attacked by opposition hooligans in 2015 has died.

Simon Dobbin, 48, was left brain-damaged in the assault after a match in Southend, Essex, five years ago.

The Cambridge United fan died in his sleep at his home in Mildenhall, Suffolk, in the early hours of Wednesday, his wife Nicole said.

Essex Police will now "review the initial investigation", a spokesman said.

Mrs Dobbin said her husband's death had come as a shock, as he had been "his usual self, laughing and smiling the day before".

Mr Dobbin was left unable to walk, talk or move independently when he was attacked after a match against Southend on 21 March 2015.

Twelve men were jailed in July 2017 in connection with the assault.

Det Ch Insp Martin Pasmore, who led the investigation into the attack, said the men were like a "pack of animals".

n a statement, Det Ch Insp Stephen Jennings, of Essex Police, said: "Our thoughts go to Simon's family and friends at this very difficult time.

"We will review the initial investigation to establish whether we need to take any further action."

Mr Dobbin's family have been campaigning for the introduction of "Simon's Law", to force lifelong payments to the NHS by people convicted of violent disorder.

In February, Mrs Dobbin said Justice Secretary Robert Buckland told her the idea was unpractical but said he may look at charging violent offenders for their jail stays.

Re: Simon Dobbin
I remember the court case. All the accused showed no remorse, and along with their other halves joining in added salt by verbally abusing Dobbin’s wife.
The only word that came to mind was scum, in the true sense of the word.
While Simon has left this world and it wasn’t much of a life after the cowardly attack, I just hope if there is any justice then sentences are revisited and the scum taken back inside for a much longer term.

Absolutely mental it came to this. Even if it is a ruck with two groups then just have your battle and anyone who goes down leave them.

I know some people involved and all I have heard is that it started as two groups, the Cambridge got a bit of a pasting and scarpered except for the victim who was KO'd. They then set on him.

Fucking tragic stuff.

Re: Simon Dobbin
Fucking terrible this, but from what I've read it wasn't a case of a load of blokes just attacking him, he and his mates went past a home pub and started giving it and some blokes piled out of the pub and it turned into a bit of a ruck. This poor cunt got a pasting. Nobody deserves what happened to him though. Will it be classified as a murder now?

Absolutely tragic news. All of those involved should be seeing out their days in prison cell.

Hopefully news like this will go some way to ensuring that violence and this bizarre tribal pack mentality particularly at football has no place in society and is no longer glorified.

Didn’t Nick Knowles and his BBC crew convert Dobbin’s house, to cope with his disability, a couple of years ago?
